STATEMENT ON  PRESIDENT BUSH’S STATE OF THE UNION ADDRESS

WASHINGTON – Congressman Spencer Bachus (AL-6) issued the following statement on the State of the Union address delivered by President Bush in Washington tonight.

"President Bush once more pointed out the key to strengthening the economy is lowering taxes and controlling spending. He is right that any economic stimulus package should not raise taxes and must be immediate, targeted, and short term. The U.S. economy has remained fundamentally strong despite obvious challenges. Above all, we need to make sure that whatever the government does has a positive result rather than making things worse."
