WASHINGTON – Congressman Spencer Bachus (AL-6) announced that the Warrior Fire Department in Jefferson County has been awarded a federal fire grant of $173,028.
“Firefighters are on the front lines every day, protecting lives and property in the community. They deserve modern equipment and the best in safety gear. This grant will help ensure that the Warrior Fire Department has the resources it needs to quickly and effectively respond to fires and emergency calls,” Bachus said.
The Warrior Fire Department will use the Operations and Safety Grant to purchase self-contained breathing apparatus, spare air tanks, a thermal imaging camera, and new turnout gear.
Chief Clay Neely said, “This is absolutely great for our department. We are the only paid fire department in the area and we would not normally be able to purchase this type of equipment. This will prove to be a huge asset to our department and the citizens of the area.”
Funds awarded under the Assistant to Fire Fighters Grant program are used to meet the firefighting and emergency response needs of fire departments and nonaffiliated emergency medical services organizations. Only the applications most closely conforming to program priorities are considered and scored by peer review panels.
The program is administered by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.
