WASHINGTON – Congressman Spencer Bachus (AL-6) announced that $500,000 for a water plant upgrade project in the City of Clanton has been included in a House spending bill.
The funding would help the city make improvements to the Clanton Water Treatment Plant, as part of an overall $4.3 million project. The State and Local Tribal Assistance Grant (STAG) is contained in the Fiscal Year 2008 Interior and Environment Appropriations bill that is expected to be approved by the House today.
"This assistance will help ensure that residents in Clanton continue to have a reliable supply of safe drinking water," Bachus said.
Before becoming law, the spending bill needs Senate approval and President Bush’s signature.
The STAG program is administered by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and provides funding assistance for water and wastewater infrastructure projects.
