CONGRESSMAN BACHUS ANNOUNCES FUNDING FOR SENIOR CITIZENS CENTERS IN JEFFERSON COUNTY

BIRMINGHAM – Congressman Spencer Bachus (AL-6) announced that he has secured nearly $300,000 in funds for senior citizens center projects in Argo, Graysville, Hueytown, and Sylvan Springs in Jefferson County.

The funding is contained in the FY08 federal budget, which the House completed today.

"A senior citizens center serves a valuable purpose in the community. It’s a place where seniors can get a good meal, improve their health and fitness, and socialize with neighbors. Senior citizens in Argo, Graysville, Hueytown, and Sylvan Springs will benefit from these projects in their communities," Bachus said.

The bill provides the following funding.

  • Argo - $95,000 for expansion of nutrition and wellness programs
  • Graysville - $50,000 for renovation of senior nutritional center
  • Hueytown - $196,000 to assist with the construction of a senior citizens center
  • Sylvan Springs - $50,000 renovation of seniors center for health and wellness

Congressman Bachus requested funding for the senior citizens projects through the budget process.

The budget legislation has been approved by both the House and Senate and awaits the signature of the President.
