WASHINGTON – Congressman Spencer Bachus (AL-6) announced that Argo Fire and Rescue in Jefferson County has been awarded a federal fire grant totaling $104,500.
"Firefighters are on the front lines every day, protecting lives and saving property. They deserve modern equipment and the best in safety gear. This grant program ensures that fire companies have the necessary resources to quickly and effectively respond to emergency calls. Argo Fire and Rescue provides outstanding service to the community, and this will help the department maintain that high standard," Bachus said.
The Operations and Safety Grant will be used to purchase air packs and self-contained breathing apparatus needed to meet new regulatory standards.
Chief Mike Platts said, "These funds will allow our department to purchase badly needed equipment and we couldn’t have done it without this grant. Thank you to Congressman Bachus for all of his support."
Funds awarded under the Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program are used to meet the firefighting and emergency needs of fire departments and nonaffiliated medical services organizations. Only the applications most closely conforming to program priorities are considered and scored by peer review panels.
The program is administered by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.
