WASHINGTON – The House Committee on Resources today held a “mark-up” where the full committee passed Congressman Spencer Bachus’ proposal to expand the Cahaba River National Wildlife Refuge by 3,600 acres.
The measure must now be passed by the full House before being sent to the Senate.
“Since the Cahaba River NWR was originally created, we have been continuously working to fund and expand the refuge. I am delighted the Resources Committee has passed the proposal to double the size of the Refuge and am optimistic it will come before the full House for a vote soon,” Bachus said.
In 2000, the Cahaba River NWR was created by legislation that Congressman Spencer Bachus introduced and passed in the United States Congress.
As originally drafted, the legislation that created the Cahaba River NWR specifically states that no land would be taken by eminent domain, but would either be donated or purchased at fair market value.
