The Citizenship Trust at The American Village in Montevallo will receive a grant for $987,228 to implement a prevention program for at-risk students in Alabama and the Southeast. The program, titled Building Good Citizens through Character and Civic Education, aims to teach students positive character traits, civic roles and skills, and how to implement change in their own communities.
“Teaching our children to be responsible citizens is crucial to a functioning democracy,” said Congressman Spencer Bachus. “The American Village continues to demonstrate effective leadership in this important endeavor.”
The grant is given by the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention in the Department of Justice, Washington, D.C.
