EASTSIDE MENTAL HEALTH CENTER TO BENEFIT FROM HUD GRANT

WASHINGTONThe U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development has released a grant notification that Section 811 funding will go to Eastside Mental Health Center, Congressman Spencer Bachus today announced.

Section 811 funding is designed to facilitate independence for persons with disabilities in the community by increasing the supply of rental housing with the availability of supportive services.  Specifically, Eastside will receive $393,400 in capital advance money and $26,400 for a three-year rental subsidy.  The capital advance money granted to Eastside will fund a new three-unit group home for very low income persons who are chronically mentally ill.  The funding is interest-free and does not have to be repaid as long as the housing remains available for very low-income persons with disabilities for at least 40 years.  The rental subsidy is used to cover the difference between the HUD-approved operating cost per unit and the tenant's rent.

"This funding will give much needed support to improve the quality of life for the most vulnerable of our citizens.  It is my hope that the benefits received from these new housing opportunities will give deserving individuals the care they need," Bachus said.
