WASHINGTON- The United States Congress today gave final approval to the Cahaba River National Wildlife Refuge Expansion Act authored by Congressman Spencer Bachus. In July, the House of Representatives passed H.R. 4947, a bill which would double the acreage of the Cahaba River National Wildlife Refuge from 3500 acres to 7100.
“Final passage of the Cahaba Refuge expansion bill is the culmination of considerable efforts by a wide array of environmentalists, conservationists, business and civic leaders, local and state officials. This is a day for all Alabamians to celebrate the further protection of the Cahaba.”
“The beauty and diversity of the Cahaba River Wildlife Refuge make it one of our state’s most valuable resources,” Bachus stated. “Keeping the Refuge pristine for future generations has been one of my top priorities. The creation and expansion of the Refuge are important steps in what needs to be a comprehensive effort to preserve and restore the Cahaba River.”
The Cahaba River National Wildlife Refuge was established in 2000 by legislation authored by Congressman Bachus.
