WASHINGTON – The Tuscaloosa Housing Authority and the Housing Authority of the Birmingham District have been awarded nearly $50,000 and $63,000, respectively, from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. These grants came through the Housing Choice Voucher-Family Self Sufficiency Grants program.
“This helps pay the salary of a case manager who can work one-on-one with families working toward self-sufficiency,” Rick Herbert, executive director of the Tuscaloosa Housing Authority, said.
“We are very appreciative. Last year we were not successful in receiving funding for the program,” Michael Billingsley, family self-sufficiency coordinator for the Housing Authority of the Birmingham District, said.
“These funds help retain program coordinators who link families to training and support services needed to achieve economic independence and self-sufficiency. The housing authorities are to be congratulated for their work in securing funding for the continuation of such programs,” Congressman Spencer Bachus said.
