CHILTON COUNTY HIGH STUDENTS WIN
NATIONAL STOCK MARKET COMPETITION

CCHS Team Recognized at Honors Day Ceremony |
CLANTON- Congressman Spencer Bachus participated in Chilton County High School’s Honors Day program today by recognizing five students who won this year’s National Congressional stock market challenge, beating out competing teams from all over the country. Sponsored by Congressman Bachus and supervised by DECA teacher Ray Sosa, the team increased the value of their “portfolio” from $100,000 to $115,975.04 in just 10 weeks- an increase of almost 16 percent.
“The success of these students is a remarkable achievement. By winning this competition, they have shown that students from Chilton County can compete and win academically against schools across the country. Ray Sosa should be commended for administering this program at Chilton County High in order to teach a younger generation about the importance of the economy and the stock market,” said Congressman Bachus.
Known as the “Capitol Hill Challenge”, the competition is sponsored by members of Congress and the SIA using The Stock Market Game™ program, which helps to teach young people about investing and how the stock markets work. Chilton County High School was invited to participate in the elite Challenge due to its success in a previous stock market contest. Earlier this year, a CCHS team won the national DECA stock market challenge, beating over 4,000 teams from both the U.S. and Canada.
Next month, Congressman Bachus and the Securities Industry Association will host Mr. Sosa and the CCHS students during their grand-prize visit to Washington, D.C. Winning team members are: Katie Edwards, Laura Atkins, Kyanne Russell, Trent Campbell, and Nathan Friday.
