AREA CITIZENS TO BENEFIT FROM FIRE GRANTS

WASHINGTON - Five local fire departments have been awarded badly needed funding through the Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program.

The departments, counties and specific amounts received are as follows:

Wolf Creek Volunteer Fire Department (St.Clair)                         $27,132

Gap of the Mountain Volunteer Fire Department (Chilton)            $84,010

Shannon Volunteer Fire Department (Jefferson)                           $69,255

East Shelby Medical Rescue (Shelby)                                          $25,270

North Shelby Fire & Emergency Medical District (Shelby)           $36,000

These funds are used by the nation's firefighters to increase the effectiveness of firefighting operations, firefighter health and safety programs, new fire apparatus, emergency medical service programs, and fire prevention and safety programs.

Congressman Spencer Bachus announced these grants and congratulates each of the departments for their hard work in securing these grants because they will further provide their citizens with added fire and medical response capabilities.
