WASHINGTON- The University of Montevallo will benefit from $225,000 in federally appropriated funds thanks to Congressman Spencer Bachus. The funding was included in the Appropriations bill that was passed by the House of Representatives this weekend. The funding will be used to construct 2,000 square feet of boardwalk extending the length and width of the 65 acre Ebenezer Swamp Ecological Preserve.
Last year, Congressman Bachus was able to secure federal funding which will be used by the University of Montevallo to purchase scientific equipment needed for the Ebenezer Swamp Wetland Interpretive Research Center. The wooded wetland is home to numerous species of diverse plant and animal wildlife, and also forms a portion of the headwaters for the Cahaba River.
“The research that students and faculty from the University of Montevallo will be conducting due to the addition of this boardwalk is vital to the advancement of wetland studies in this region. I am pleased to have been of assistance in making this advancement in science and education possible,” said Congressman Bachus.
