WASHINGTON- Congressman Spencer Bachus is very pleased to announce that three local police departments have received over $144,000 in funding from the Department of Justice. The grants were awarded through the COPS Secure Our Schools program, which provides funds to improve security at schools and on school grounds.
The departments and amounts received are as follows:
-Trussville Police: $88,746
-Birmingham Police: $50,000
-Leeds Police: $5,650
TOTAL: $144,396
The Secure Our Schools program will provide up to 50 percent of the total cost for municipalities to install metal detectors, locks, lighting, and other equipment to help deter crime. The grants can also be used to pay half of the cost of security assessments, security training, and other measures that will provide significant improvements in the security and overall quality of education in our schools.
