HOPE NOW Home Mortgage Program
Homeowners who are having difficulty paying their mortgages can receive information on their options from HOPE NOW, a voluntary alliance between counselors, servicers, investors, and other mortgage market participants. The Homeowners HOPE Hotline – 1-888-995-HOPE – is staffed by HUD-approved credit counselors trained to guide homeowners through possible options. The help is free. The U.S. Department of the Treasury and the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development encouraged the creation of the HOPE NOW Alliance to help coordinate support for homeowners. As of March 3, 2008, the program had helped to rework more than one million mortgage loans.
