National "Do Not Call" Registry
The Federal Trade Commission's (FTC) Telemarketing Sales Rule (TSR) gives consumers the opportunity to control how many telemarketing calls they receive at home. A National "Do Not Call" Registry has been established to make this process more convenient and effective for consumers. Once you have placed your home or cell phone number on the registry, telemarketers are prohibited from making solicitations to you. Violators are subject to warning citations and fines. Complete details on the telemarketers subject to the regulations, as well as information on how to file a complaint against unwanted telemarketing calls, are available at the Federal Trade Commission website (www.ftc.gov) and the Federal Communications website (www.fcc.gov).
How can I put my number on the National Registry?
You may register your telephone number online at DONOTCALL.GOV or by phone, toll-free, by calling 1-888-382-1222 (TYY1-866-290-4236). Registration is free. According to the Federal Trade Commission, once your name has been on the registry for 31 days, most undesired telemarketing calls should stop.
